Pat Sajak Says 'Wheel of Fortune' Fans Were 'Proud' of Vanna White for Stepping in as Host

Vanna White gave a new job a spin in December when she hosted “Wheel of Fortune” for the first time.

White hosted the show while host Sajak had to undergo surgery to correct a blocked intestine in November. She filmed three weeks worth of episodes as the fill-in host before Sajak returned for his first episode back that aired on December 9.

In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, longtime host Pat Sajak opened up about how he felt when Vanna White filled in for him. Sajak said fans were incredibly supportive of White when she took over the hosting gig.

“The fact that she did it speaks volumes about her. It would have been very easy for her to say, ‘I’m sorry, this is not what I do,'” Sajak said about White. “But the audience was rooting for her and almost proud to see her up there.”

When White was asked if she would do it again, she said it wasn’t at “the top of her list.”

“I loved being there, I loved doing it, but I was so nervous,” she said. “Maybe if I did it a few more times I would feel better about it but I’m my worst critic.”

Back in December, Sajak opened up about his recent health crisis. In an exclusive with "Good Morning America," Sajak said he is back in the studio and "is feeling great."

The "Wheel of Fortune" host went on to explain the day he felt a "horrific pain" that turned out to be a blocked intestine. He said that if doctors didn't operate right away, he could have died.
