DAY 1 of my Fitness Journey!

The Nutrition Corner & One Life Fitness

June 5, 2017

Kyle and I were tired of being tired, so we decided to make a change. Changing your lifestyle and working out/training can be intimidating especially if you’re like a lost puppy, like me when it comes to going to the gym. And to put this out there, BY NO MEANS DO I THINK IM OVERWEIGHT. But do I think I’m out of shape? HELL YES! I use to run a mile in high school under 6 minutes!!! I tried last week and I was at 13!!! Kyle and I were tired of feeling sluggish… we started by cutting out energy drinks, packing our lunches EVERYDAY not just a few times a week.. And then the work out journey began… it’s scary at first, because for me I was clueless. But having people on your side to teach you and walk you through it all makes it a lot easier.

When I first decided to make this change in my life, I started working out at home, because lets be honest, the gym is intimidating. I was doing well, but felt like I wasn’t pushing myself as hard as I could.. so after 3 weeks of training I then called One Life Fitness.. Mark Franklin specifically, and he gave me a tour, the run down, even assisted me with a few work outs, and NOW I have a trainer, Jim, at the Newport News location and DAY 1 of training starts TODAY! I’m excited, but nervous.. but what I am trying to get too is don’t be scared, you’re on your own timeline, If your making simple changes by just working out at home 3x a week then do that! You’ll gradually want to push yourself more!

If you're confused about how to start working out, then make a decision. It doesn't even have to be the “best” decision. Just choose something that you want to become good at doing and start moving in that direction. There will be plenty of time for adjustments and optimization later.

Once you’re ready, you’re ready… And I was at the point to move on, so I took the next step and went to One Life.. and started asking questions because I had no idea what a typical workout even looked like.. or how to use anything.

I asked people who did know. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions. Everybody is a beginner at some point. The people around you are your greatest asset! And here’s a little knowledge bomb for you: the itty gritty details don’t matter in the beginning.

You’ll have plenty of time to figure out technique, rest periods, volume, training schedules, yada yada yada. When you’re starting a new workout routine, the only thing that matters is getting started. Get the main idea, stick to the schedule, and the details will begin to fall into place.

Now onto the part where people seem to have a lot of trouble; EATING. Kyle and I started getting into the habit of eating out for lunch almost every other day, not only is it expensive, but we were eating BAD. I do have to say though, AT HOME, we eat pretty clean! We love chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit… BUT after reading a bunch of crap online I started to question myself, Am I eating enough of the RIGHT THINGS? Am I eating TOO MUCH at ONE TIME? I swear, trying to live a healthy lifestyle seems like an impossible equation… Until you get some very educated people on your side, Like Carl and Amy… who broke it down very simply for me.

Carl and Amy are dedicated to doing that for people ... The Nutrition Corners is locally owned and operated, and these two are FILLED with knowledge. It's obvious how passionate they are. They offer nutrition and training programs for anyone to help you reach your goal. They hooked me up with a lot of things to live a healthier lifestyle and reach my fitness goal and I'm thankful they're working with me during this journey! They've trained the elite.. to your average joe!!! DON'T BE INTIMIDATED, Everyone starts somewhere!

They literally sat down with me, went over my crazy schedule, told me what times i should eat, what i should eat, and im not lying, I am not changing anything other than portion size and times im eating!

Little did I know I was eating all of the right things, but eating at the wrong times, and too much at once, I’m learning something new every day! Next post ill go over what supplements Carl & Amy reccomended for me.

Making changes to live a healthier lifestyle SOUND scary and some people don't like change, but I promise you.. it's not, its fun! You dont have to eat plain ol' rice and chicken every day... or "rabbit food" YOU CAN HAVE FUN IN THE KITCHEN! I love to cook, so this has been very easy for me!

I know this all seems SO OVERWHELMING, and I get it… I’ve been there, BUT remember, take baby steps, ask questions, you’ll be better tomorrow than you were yesterday! I am a complete NEWBIE to all of this, but I’m loving every second of this journey and can't wait to keep you all updated!!
